This year’s techtimeout tuesday will be the biggest ever, with hundreds of businesses across the UK pledging to enjoy screen-free fun on 28th November 2023.
The best thing about it? It’s free and easy to get involved. Here’s everything you need to know about the day and how to sign up.
What is techtimeout tuesday?
techtimeout tuesday is the UK’s biggest workplace digital wellbeing awareness day.
Our mission is to raise awareness of technology overuse and encourage people to introduce healthier tech habits at work and at home.
We aren’t asking people to throw their screens out of the window - we rely on them to do our jobs. We’re just asking employees across the UK to take a break from tech, just for a bit.
Businesses can pledge to take half an hour or the whole day. Whatever you want to do. As long as colleagues enjoy some screen-free activity together, you’ll experience the healthy benefits of switching off for a bit.
Why is too much screen time bad for us?
Why do we need to take a techtimeout at work?
We are spending more time glued to our screens than ever. A recent survey by Specsavers found the average UK hybrid worker spends 12 hours looking at screens - starting at 7 a.m. and finishing at 10 p.m.
Why does it matter?
Excessive screen time has been linked to a range of negative health impacts including:
- anxiety
- depression
- burnout
- obesity
- headaches
- neck and back problems
- eye strain
- poor sleep
It’s important we are aware of how screen time can affect our relationships, wellbeing, and productivity, at work and at home, and that we take steps to develop a healthier tech/life balance.
That’s why techtimeout tuesday exists.
