what is flexible working?

Flexible working is a style of working that accommodates an employee's needs, such as providing flexible start and end times or working from home.

Do you think flexible working is for you?

benefits of flexible working

The advantages of flexible employment for businesses extend beyond happy workers. Employers who give their employees the flexibility to work a flexible schedule can find themselves with a greener, more profitable, and more attractive business that people choose to work for.

here are 5 advantages of flexible working:

  1. Increases Retention - Allowing your current employees to work flexible hours will help you retain valuable employees.

  2. Improves Diversity - If you restrict your pool of applicants to a single location (or even a few), you would have a smaller pool of candidates.

  3. Enhances Employee Engagement - Employees who are engaged understand their job and how what they do contributes to the success of the company.

  4. Reduces stress and burnout - According to a Labour Force Survey, over 12 months, 15,000,000 days were lost due to mental health issues such as stress, depression, or anxiety, all of which were prompted (or worsened) by work. As a result, offering flexible working hours is critical to employee well-being.

  5. Improves Productivity - One of the reasons employers frequently refuse to encourage workers to work flexibly is that they believe that if they can't keep a close eye on their employees, they won't work. Acting flexibly, on the other hand, has been shown to boost employee productivity.

so, how does flexible working improve productivity?

A recent study clearly shows that flexible working, which gives workers more control of when and where they work, increases employee productivity, improves the pace and efficiency of decision making, develops an individual's time management skills, and boosts innovative thinking. As it shows that 77% of respondents believe that flexible working promotes a greater sense of duty and time management, which is essential for a more efficient workforce and successful remote management.

what do I think?

Personally, during my time at techtimeout, they have provided me with flexible working hours, which I believe has minimised my stress and anxiety because it motivates me to work harder and helps me feel more productive because I am not under the burden of having fixed hours. I'm letting my imagination run wild. It's also nice to be able to work from home and organise my workspace without being distracted.
